Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to advance your pharmaceutical career. We are looking for eager and driven individuals to join our welcoming team of pharmacy technicians, who deliver a variety of pharmaceutical services at our busy acute hospital trust.

The position holder will be an important member of the wider pharmacy team, collaborating with other healthcare professionals, including chemists, to oversee the provision and supply of medication to patients at Heartlands Hospital.

Clinical Pharmacy Technicians are key members of the Pharmacy team, responsible for not only dispensing and supplying medication but also participating in a variety of processes ranging from medication reconciliation to audit completion. This is done with the goal of offering a safe and effective clinical medicine optimisation service while also assisting with peer development and service optimisation.

In this role, you will be fully supported in developing the skills and experience needed to practise at an advanced level in a hospital context. As the successful candidate, you will participate in a comprehensive training programme with the assistance of numerous experienced Clinical Pharmacy Technicians.

To apply, you must be a qualified Pharmacy Technician registered with the GPhC; however, applications from individuals who are expected to qualify and register this year will be considered. Experience in hospital pharmacy is not required, as you will be well-supported in your training and development for this post.

 

Main responsibilities, tasks, and abilities required

With a patient-centered approach, you will:

* Support the pharmacy department in providing complete pharmaceutical care to patients.

* Provide a high-quality ward-based medicine optimisation service to a variety of areas across the Trust;

* Serve as a role model, providing training and mentoring to junior employees;

* Support the inpatient pharmacy as needed;

* Carry out accuracy checking commitments.

Key Person Specification Requirements

* Possess a nationally approved pharmacy technician qualification and be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.

* Working as a registered pharmacy technician with at least one year of post-qualification experience.

* A nationally acknowledged, validated accuracy checking qualification.

* A professional approach with the capacity to motivate oneself and others.

* The ability to stay calm under pressure.

* A flexible approach and commitment to meeting the needs of the service.

* Strong attention to detail.

* Experience working as a clinical pharmacy technician or in a comparable capacity is preferred.

This position provides in-service development training and the opportunity to get important clinical experience. It will be necessary to rotate participation in the evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

* GCSEs: Mathematics and English (Grade B/5) and four additional subjects, including Science (Grade C/4)

Or

* GCSEs: Mathematics, English, and Science (Grade C/4 or equivalent), plus two extra GCSEs (Grade C/4) and successful completion of the pharmacy service skills Level 2 NVQ qualification (or equivalent).

Or

* Three A levels, one of which is a relevant science topic; and Mathematics B/5 (GCSE or equivalent).

Or

* A degree in science or humanities, with a B/5 in mathematics (GCSE or equivalent).

* Level 3 Diploma in Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians.

Or

* BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Pharmaceutical Science and Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Pharmacy Service Skills, or equivalent as determined by the General Pharmaceutical Council Dispensing Accuracy Accreditation, West Midlands Scheme, or equivalent

* Evidence of continued professional development.

* Professional registration with the GPhC.

* Accredited Checking Technician (National Framework).

Experience

Essential

* Pre-qualification requires two years of pharmacy job experience.

* Currently working as a band 4 pharmacy technician / equivalent or higher with post-qualification experience in an acute situation.

* The ability to demonstrate an equivalent degree of knowledge and appropriate practical experience for the position.

* Significant experience in the pharmacy setting

* Experience with the specialty function for the area of responsibility.

* Experience organising different levels of workers and their tasks.

* Experienced with adhering to policies and procedures

* Significant experience in hospital pharmacy settings

* Understanding the Good Distribution Practice (GDP)

* Workplace health and safety, including COSHH Understanding of dispensing, stock control, supply, and information technology systems and operations.

* Knowledge of the Code of Practice/Customer Care

* Understanding of medications, side effects, and where to get additional information.

* Knowledge of job-related practices, policies, and procedures.

* Recognises the need to provide a cost-effective service and the necessary work procedures to reduce waste.
