Job Description

 

Duties

This position’s responsibilities include preparing and serving hot and cold beverages from a full-service coffee shop, as well as doing a number of manual activities in the food preparation and service departments.

  • operates a full-service coffee bar. Prepares a range of hot and cold beverages, including brewed coffee, mocha, latte, espresso, cappuccino, chai, hot chocolate, blended iced drinks, fruit smoothies, and so on, by selecting the right ingredients and following specific procedures for each drink variation.
  • Sets up and keeps work area nice and clean. Cleans seating area tables and replaces the condiment station as needed. Runs the dishwasher. Performs heavy-duty cleaning activities as needed in the workplace (floors, walls, and ceilings).
  • Opens and closes the facility according to established protocols. Sets up a work location for operations and collects funds from the bank. Completes the required documentation for cash fund accountability.
  • Assists with inventory and identifies things for reordering. Trains new employees as needed.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned.

To qualify, you must meet the following experience requirements. Experience includes both paid and unpaid labour, as well as volunteer work through National Service programmes (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organisations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). You will receive credit for all qualified experience, including voluntary work. Your CV must clearly reflect your relevant experience; if you qualify based on schooling, you will need to submit transcripts with your application.

 

Qualifying Experience:

  • Must have experience creating coffee beverages for retail sale, as well as identifying the proper quantities and combinations to employ in beverage preparation.
  • You must be able to follow simple recipe cards.
  • Must be able to follow simple written and oral instructions, utilise hand tools for cleaning, and operate basic machinery.
  • Must be capable of performing multi-step activities and using judgement when sequencing tasks.
  • Must be knowledgeable about sanitary requirements when handling and serving food, as well as cleaning equipment and the work area.
  • Must be able to communicate with customers and have experience working with the public.
  • Must be able to successfully complete an employment physical.
  • Must be able to receive a Food Handlers Certificate and/or complete food handling training.
  • Must be able to crouch, reach, push, pull, and bend for extended periods of time.
