Job Description
Under indirect supervision, the Family Medicine Physician will provide and manage comprehensive health care for a designated patient population. This role requires specialized knowledge and expertise in the core components of Family Medicine, with a strong commitment to delivering high-quality care, education, and community service.

Essential Functions (CARE Model)
- Each faculty physician’s role is defined through the CARE model: Clinical, Administrative, Research, and Educational responsibilities. The proportion of duties in each category may vary depending on departmental needs.
- C = Clinical
- Maintain staff privileges at member hospitals and participate in academic and attending rounds.
- Provide direct patient care, including physical exams, assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans for diverse populations, including underserved and low-income patients.
- Prescribe medications and treatment regimens in alignment with assessed medical conditions.
- Supervise and evaluate residents and medical students in clinics and inpatient settings.
- Create meaningful learning opportunities for residents and students through supervision and clinical engagement.
- Provide oversight to medical students during electives and inpatient services.
A = Administrative
- Contribute to program planning and implementation of outpatient clinics, office-based services, and community initiatives.
- Assist in evaluating departmental programs and clinical outcomes.
- Support compliance with institutional policies, accreditation standards, and quality improvement objectives.
R = Research
- Engage in scholarly activities that contribute to advancing Family Medicine and evidence-based clinical practice.
- Participate in departmental or community-based research initiatives.
E = Educational
- Support curriculum development, conference planning, and resident/student education.
- Lecture on Family Medicine topics at conferences, Grand Rounds, and residency training sessions.
- Evaluate residents throughout their training phases and participate in clerkship student conferences.
- Promote lifelong learning and CME opportunities within the department.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to assess, document, and monitor patient symptoms and progress.
- Knowledge of ethical and legal standards in medical care.
- Familiarity with pharmacology, patient education, and prescribing practices.
- Ability to maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards.
- Knowledge of community health care systems and patient services.
- Awareness of accreditation and certification requirements.
- Strong foundation in diagnostic, evaluation, and treatment procedures.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Working Environment & Physical Demands
- Moderate physical activity; requires handling objects up to 25 lbs. and standing/walking for 4+ hours per day.
- Exposure to potentially hazardous materials and situations requiring safety precautions and protective equipment.
- Direct work with blood or blood-borne pathogens, requiring OSHA training.
Qualifications
- Education/Experience: Board-certified or board-eligible in Family Medicine; active participation in educational initiatives required.
- Licensure: Must hold or be eligible to obtain state licensure and relevant certifications in compliance with legal and accreditation standards.
- Faculty Appointment: Candidate must meet the criteria for a faculty appointment with the Department of Family Medicine at CMED.
- Medical Staff: Maintain staff appointments at participating hospitals and institutions.
