JOB DESCRIPTION
AI Engineer, NLP, Large Language Models, Biotechnology
West London – office based four days a week.
We’re seeking for an MSc / PhD-level AI Engineer / Scientist. An Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning, LLM expert is needed to help a high-growth, fast-paced biotechnology company implement a dramatic change in drug discovery.
The successful candidate will specialise in NLP / Large Language Models, bringing in-depth expertise – actual problem-solving ‘under the hood’ knowhow of LLMs such as GPT-4, Claude, Huggingface, LLaMA, LangChain, LlamaIndex, Pinecone, and so on.
You’ll be adept at adapting and debugging ML systems in a variety of situations, and you’ll be interested in all areas of machine learning, including parameter-efficient adaptation of big language and vision models. With concepts for productionizing ML systems, extended context text summary, production-grade ML systems, and so on.
In brief, you will have specialised knowledge of Transformers, experience with API wrappers such as LangChain and Auto-GPT, evaluation of LLMs and prompt engineering, semantic search, MLOps, and embedding-based fine tuning of NLP models such as those found in Sentence Transformers.
You’ll need:
- MSc/PhD with ideally post-doctoral or similar experience in AI/Machine Learning, Textual Analysis/Natural Language Processing, and Transformer Technology/Large Language Models.
- Experience with NLP and Large Language Models, including GPT-4, Claude, Huggingface, LLaMA, LangChain, LlamaIndex, and Pinecone.
- Proven track record of contributions to major AI domain software and data engineering projects related to the life sciences, ideally in drug development and in a biotech start-up context.
- Good knowledge of cloud computing environments is necessary, with a preference for Amazon Web Services.
- Self-awareness, intuition, gravity, naturally strong leadership, and listening skills
Knowledge in several of the following will be beneficial:
- AI/ML approaches to difficulties in life sciences.
- Engineering and data solutions for bioinformatic workflow design and development, with an emphasis on ML/AI applications.
- Understanding data management approaches for large-scale scientific data collections.
- Programming proficiency in Java, C/C++, R, or Python
- SOA NLP APIs with Machine Learning/Deep Learning Frameworks
- Experience in translating user needs into process designs/specifications.
- Experience developing and improving data processing pipelines, Nextflow/Nextflow Tower; SQL/NoSQL
- Experience using graph databases
- Network science and advanced statistical approaches would be a significant plus.
You will be one of only a few brilliant AI Engineers and Scientists joining a spectacular, world-class tech team of problem solvers. This new team will engage on a ground-breaking effort to create and deploy AI-driven innovations to help with the implementation of next-generation computational drug discovery and siRNA platforms.
Some of the wider benefits:
Highly competitive income, BUPA for self and partner/family, large discretionary bonus, 10% employer pension contribution.
Visa sponsorship may be available for UK-based candidates who can work four days a week from the west London office.
