Job Description

Advanced Clinical Practitioner / Nurse Specialist – Acute Oncology

The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust
Band 8a (or equivalent)

Permanent, Full-time (37.5 hours per week)
Including long days, nights, weekends, and bank holidays as part of our 24/7 service

Join one of the UK’s premier cancer specialist centres and play a pivotal role in delivering outstanding urgent care to patients facing complications from cancer or its treatments.

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Advanced Clinical Practitioner (or equivalent senior nurse) to work closely with our medical and nursing teams. You’ll be based primarily in our Clinical Decision Unit, managing acute presentations such as treatment side effects, while also providing clinical leadership across inpatient wards day and night. This includes leading our 24-hour telephone triage hotline, ensuring timely advice and support for patients and professionals alike.

In this dynamic position, you will use your advanced clinical decision-making skills to practice autonomously, while collaborating within a dedicated multidisciplinary team. You’ll also take the lead in educating and mentoring staff, sharing specialist knowledge to build capability across the service.

What We are Looking For in You

  • Proven leadership and management experience in a specialist oncology or acute care setting
  • Strong background in delivering specialist education, training, and development for colleagues
  • Confidence in independent advanced practice and complex clinical decision-making
  • Excellent communication abilities, with the skill to build rapport quickly in high-pressure situations
  • Strong organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise, multitask, and thrive in a fast-moving environment
  • A genuine passion for supporting the unique needs of cancer patients and their families
  • Commitment to working flexibly across shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays

We actively champion diversity and inclusion in our teams. This role may qualify for sponsorship under the UK’s Skilled Worker visa route if you are applying from overseas. We strongly suggest checking your eligibility first to understand the requirements around job offers, salary thresholds, English language proficiency, and more.
