Job Description

We are looking for a dedicated Process Technician to join our team and help bring cutting-edge micro-optical and MEMS devices from concept to reality. In this hands-on position, you’ll be at the heart of our cleanroom operations, running precise fabrication processes, supporting rapid experiments, and helping maintain top-tier equipment reliability. Your work will directly contribute to turning innovative R&D ideas into consistent, high-performing production steps while collaborating with process engineers, external fabrication partners, and tool vendors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute core fabrication processes — Perform photolithography, thin-film deposition (such as PECVD or ALD), plasma etching (RIE/ICP), wafer bonding, wet processing, and various metrology tasks by strictly following engineer-specified recipes and sequences.
  • Support fast-paced prototyping  Assist in quick-turn experiments, including material preparation, split-lot runs, mask handling, and detailed observation reporting to help speed up design iterations and improvements.
  • Operate and maintain equipment Serve as the go-to operator for essential cleanroom tools; conduct daily/ routine calibrations, basic diagnostics, and preventive maintenance, while promptly escalating more complex issues to engineers or suppliers.
  • Perform inspections and measurements — Use tools like profilometers, ellipsometers, optical microscopes, SEMs, and other characterisation equipment to inspect features, measure critical dimensions, and record data accurately and traceably.
  • Uphold strict protocols — Adhere rigorously to standard operating procedures (SOPs), cleanroom gowning and behaviour rules, and all safety requirements. For official UK guidance on handling hazardous substances in microelectronics environments, refer to the HSE COSHH essentials for the microelectronics industry.
  • Collaborate across teams — Work side-by-side with internal engineers, partner fabrication sites, and equipment manufacturers during tool qualifications, process trials, transfers, and optimisation efforts.
  • Capture and organise data — Keep detailed, well-structured records of process runs, parameters, and results to support design-of-experiments (DOE), statistical process control (SPC), and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing — Help document evolving recipes, procedures, tool performance notes, and lessons learned; participate in team reviews and process enhancement discussions.

What We are Looking For

  • At least 2 years of practical experience in semiconductor processing, MEMS fabrication, photonics/micro-optics, or similar advanced micro/nanofabrication settings.
  • Direct hands-on expertise operating equipment in photolithography, plasma etching, thin-film deposition, wafer bonding, and wet chemical processing.
  • Excellent cleanroom discipline and familiarity with ISO-class cleanroom standards and protocols.
  • Proven ability to follow detailed instructions precisely, handle delicate wafers/substrates safely, and log results meticulously.
  • Experience using metrology and inspection tools (profilometry, ellipsometry, optical/SEM microscopy, CD-SEM, etc.).
  • Comfort with structured data handling and basic SPC principles (using tools like Excel, JMP, or similar systems).
  • Qualification such as HNC/HND, B.Tech, B.Sc., or equivalent in Materials Science, Electronics, Physics, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field substantial relevant industry experience can substitute for formal qualifications.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in dynamic, cross-functional teams.
  • Bonus points for prior involvement in process transfers, tool qualifications, pilot production lines, wafer-level packaging, device dicing, optical/electrical testing, or advanced characterisation techniques (e.g., interferometry or spectral analysis).

What We Offer

  • A competitive salary package plus meaningful equity (stock options)  you will truly share in the success you help create.
  • Our vibrant headquarters in King’s Cross, London  at the centre of the city’s thriving AI and tech ecosystem.
  • Location bonus  If you live within 20 minutes of the office, we provide an additional £24,000 per year; within 45 minutes is still very welcome.
  • Full visa sponsorship and comprehensive relocation assistance (for UK and international moves) via a specialist provider to make your transition to London smooth and stress-free. For official details on the UK’s Skilled Worker visa route, see the GOV.UK Skilled Worker visa overview.
  • Private BUPA medical and dental insurance (pre-existing conditions covered).
  • Top-tier tech setup: M4 Mac as standard, with M4 Pro models available for technical roles.
  • Premium Sony noise-cancelling headphones and fully ergonomic workstations.
  • Personal company card for productivity tools (e.g., premium software subscriptions that make your work easier).
  • Delicious, chef-prepared dinners served in the office every evening  options for all diets and preferences.
  • Regular team off-site social events each month.
  • 25 days of annual leave plus all UK public holidays.
In-house 3D printer access for personal or work-related projects.
  • Cycle-to-work scheme and a running tab at a great local coffee spot.
  • Workplace pension with salary sacrifice options.

If you will excited about advancing AI-driven computing through precise microfabrication, enjoy a fast-moving and collaborative atmosphere, and have the practical skills to thrive in a cleanroom setting, we’d love to hear from you. Apply today to help shape the next generation of computing at Olix.
