Job Description
Join Our Team as a Newly Qualified Social Worker
Position Overview
We’re excited to offer a fantastic starting role for a Newly Qualified Social Worker in our Support and Safeguarding Service at Wiltshire Council. Located in the welcoming town of Trowbridge in western Wiltshire, this position lets you make a real difference in the lives of vulnerable children and families. Our motto, “Empowering Families, Protecting Futures,” reflects our dedication to building stronger communities every day.
What You’ll Do
In this role, you’ll focus on helping children from before birth up to age 18 who need extra support. We use a localized approach, assigning you to a specific area—such as Trowbridge, Westbury, Melksham, or Bradford on Avon—based on your strengths and preferences. This setup allows you to build meaningful, long-term connections with families. We emphasize continuity, so you’ll often be the consistent point of contact throughout a family’s journey, providing stability and trust.
Support for Your Growth
Starting out in social work can be challenging, but we’ve got your back. You’ll have a dedicated ASYE (Assessed and Supported Year in Employment) Development Manager to guide you. Expect regular check-ins with supervision sessions twice a month, plus plenty of casual advice and mentorship along the way. Our tailored training program, put together by our ASYE Coordinator, will help you build skills step by step. And to celebrate your progress, we wrap up the year with a fun group event!
Beyond your first year, we invest in your ongoing development with various learning opportunities aligned to the professional capabilities framework. At Wiltshire Council, we truly appreciate the effort our team puts in and create a nurturing space where everyone can succeed.
