Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate healthcare professional to lead and support the Colposcopy Service, providing expert care to women attending the service. This is a senior clinical role that combines advanced practice, leadership, and service development, ensuring that high standards of care are consistently delivered in line with national screening requirements.

The post holder will play a central role in overseeing the cervical screening pathway, supporting quality assurance processes, and ensuring full compliance with British Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BSCCP) guidelines. You will also be responsible for leading, developing, and supporting staff within the Colposcopy Service, fostering a culture of excellence, safety, and continuous improvement.

Clinical Leadership and Service Coordination

Based within the Colposcopy specialty, you will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless communication and collaborative working. Regular participation in key meetings is a vital part of the role, including monthly Colposcopy MDT meetings, quarterly Plymouth and Cornwall Board meetings, South Colposcopy Leads meetings, and Colposcopy and Cervical Screening Business Group meetings, where you will be a key contributor.

As a visible and autonomous practitioner, you will use your advanced clinical knowledge and judgement to support both patients and colleagues. You will lead the coordination of all nursing activity within the Colposcopy Service, ensuring the service runs efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of patient care and safety.

Key Responsibilities

You will be responsible for the effective delivery of a high-quality Colposcopy Service, ensuring that staffing, resources, and clinical processes are well managed. This includes oversight of equipment management, maintaining health and safety standards within clinical areas, and ensuring that data entry and audit requirements are completed accurately and on time.

Clinically, you will take relevant patient histories, carry out holistic physical and mental health assessments, and develop, implement, and review care plans within your scope of practice. You will demonstrate advanced clinical decision-making grounded in evidence-based practice and support doctor-led clinics when required, working closely with the Specialty Manager to ensure continuity of care.

You will also support the Lead Colposcopist by ensuring national standards are consistently met and that any changes to policy or practice are implemented effectively. Accurate data collection and validation will be essential to enable the timely production of quarterly and annual performance reports, including mandatory KC65 returns.
